Texas Boiler Rules Are Changing

The Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) has revised the Texas Boiler Rules, bringing new compliance requirements that go into effect in 2025. The cost to comply is minimal—as low as $75—but failing to meet the new regulations can lead to steep daily fines.

WHAT’S CHANGING?

1. POWER BOILERS MUST HAVE A BLOWDOWN SEPARATOR OR BLOWDOWN TANK

All drains from the boiler must be connected to a blowdown separator or tank.
Effective May 1, 2025

2. LATE INSPECTION FEES ARE BEING ENFORCED

Boilers must be inspected before their Certificate of Operation expires.
Fines start at $25 per day and increase to $100 per day after 60 days.
Effective December 1, 2025

3. CARBON MONOXIDE (CO) DETECTOR REVISIONS

Boilers must still have CO detectors and interlocks.
Boilers can now continue operating up to 200 ppm of CO if remotely monitored.
If CO reaches 50 ppm, an alarm must notify personnel.
